Our Cattle
Cows
Suckler cows have been part of our farm's history for generations. Over that time breeds and practices have evolved and changed, but one thing that still remains is an unrivalled passion to produce a simple, easy to manage system producing cattle of the highest quality breeding and finishing stock.

Our cow breeds have ranged from Angus crosses to Belgium Blue crosses but over the last few years we have been moving to a maternal Stabiliser cow. Famed for its ease of calving, small mature frame and fertile hardy nature, they are the perfect cow for our system.

We calve our cows in the spring with the view to maximising the utilisation of our grass pastures and herbal leys, all with the goal of reducing inputs whilst increasing the quality of life for our cattle and those who work on farm.

Bulls
We use two type of bulls on our farm. One is chosen for the maternal qualities of its offspring and the other for its terminal traits. All of our bulls are selected for both their phenotypes and their EBV's (Estimated Breeding Values).

We run Stabiliser bulls with the view to breeding high quality fertile replacement heifers, as well as Stabiliser bull calves for their exceptional eating quality and ease of fleshing.

A Charolais bull is still used on older cows where replacement heifers are not a concern. The progeny from these gives us fast growing cattle that are highly desired by processors for their consistent carcass quality.

Moving forward we will reduce the use of our Charolais bulls in favour of using all Stabilisers.
